Jordan Minister, Dr. Hazim El-Naser, discusses Water Security in the Middle East
His Excellency gave a talk entitled Water Security in the Middle East
The Stanford Woods Institute's Global Freshwater Initiative coordinates the Jordan Water Project (JWP), an international interdisciplinary research effort aimed at developing a new approach to evaluate policies to enhance sustainability of freshwater resource systems in that country. H.E. Dr. Hazim El-Naser, Minister of Water and Irrigation for the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is a partner in this innovative project.
Dr. Naser holds a Bachelors and a Masters degree from the University of Jordan and a PhD in Water Resources Management from Technical University of Munich and Würzburg University. Between 1991 and 1996, Dr. Naser earned a higher diploma from Harvard University in Water and Environmental Economics. In 2001, Dr. Naser was appointed Minister of Water and Irrigation and in 2003, he was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Water and Irrigation until 2005. Between 2005 and 2007, Dr. Naser worked as a water and irrigation consultant for several major international development agencies working on development projects in Palestine and Iraq. Dr. Naser has more than 60 publications in international journals on water and the environment and agriculture infrastructure. Dr. Naser also holds several honorary distinctions from Jordan and France. Recently, in 2009, he published a book “Management of Scarce Water Resources: A Middle Eastern Experience” by Witpress, UK.
